Staying Horse Races On The Flat

Staying Horse Races On The Flat UK

This is a real conundrum for me I do not like flat UK staying races e.g. 1m 5f and 1m 6f and 2m UK horse races or further. I just cannot get my head around these staying distances it is a simple as that. The horse form is not easy to read it is that simple.
I have one exception to this rule, the top class staying races at Royal Ascot in June I do like.

So Why Do I Not Like Staying Horse Races On The Flat

Basically, it is down to a horse being able to stay the race distance and the race tactics used by the jockey. Sometimes these races become burn ups in the last 3f and 2f before the winning post in other words the horses speed increases. Some horses like to increase the race speed some way out from the winning line to take other horses off their feet and then take a breather before kicking on again. You then throw in the course undulations and uphill or downhill finishes and ground the racecourse has to offer, and this becomes a volatile mix. Now let us throw in horses that have run over extreme distances as well can they mix it with the speedier types on the flat plus we have the other end of the spectrum as well. A 1m 4f or 1m 2f horse trying longer distance races becomes an issue when horse form reading unless you know dam and sire breeding statistics!

I never seem to be comfortable in this arena of distance staying flat horses but do not get me wrong I will have a bet in some of these races when it suits.
Unless you know jockey race tactics in these types of horse races you are at a disadvantage. Some horses will struggle during a race until the after burners step in and then it’s a completely different horse race.
