1 mile UK Flat Races 8F- Furlongs An Opinion

These 1m UK flats races known as 8f – furlongs races and a furlong being approximately 200 meters. These are not sprint races but attract the best horses in the world at group 1 level.

Now 8f is 1600 meters so you see this meter metric referred to in foreign climbs where the race distance is displayed as meters, and this can be a bit confusing to the novice punter!
Now I have mentioned in previous articles I love 5f (1000 meter races on AWF – All Weather Flat races in low graded class 5 and 6 races.

But I like top class group 1 1m horse races as this is the pinnacle of horse racing and I have seen some great races not from a punting point of view. I am now in my 60s and I have watched some of the best horses competing at the top level. I must confess I am not a big fan of 1m 4f races unless it’s the brilliant Arc De Triomphe in France now that is worth watching bet or no bet!

So, I am reminiscing here but 1m 4f races present a problem to me in terms of horse form analysis as some horses improve as they mature from 2 year old to 3 year old quicker than others. I do not know horse biometrics and breeding I will leave this to the experts.
I think stick to the flat distance races you like and study them in terms of class of race and the usual horse form variables on AWF – All weather flat racing or turf racing.
