There are many winning horse racing strategies out there, some can be applied manually or automatically via horse racing software called bots. So, this raises the questions, which horse racing strategy do we use and what is the criteria we use in choosing the correct strategy. I will you give you my favourite horse racing strategy and explain why.
Lay And Back Bet In The Same Horse Race Using Betfair
This is my favourite winning horse racing strategy, and it is a natural bet. The strategy works like this,
1. Look at UK handicap horse races only.
2. Make sure the favourite in the race has decimal odds less than 3.0 or 2/1 in old money.
3. Try to find weaknesses in the favourite via reading horse racing form.
4. If we find a favourite to lay in 3 above, we lay it.
5. If we lay a favourite in 4 above, we now look for another horse to back in the same race but obviously not the favourite.
We will now look at each point above in detail.
Look at UK handicap horse races only.
I love handicap races the bigger the race field the better! Plus, I love low grade handicap races like class 6 and class 5. Plus, I am fond of UK AWF – All weather racing as well over 5f 6f 7f 1m race distances. I see the same horses competing week in week out and this allows me to remember the horse form.
Make sure the favourite in the race has decimal odds less than 3.0 or 2/1 in old money.
I take this approach with a view to laying the favourite in the race at short decimal odds.
This takes out a large percentage of the book value in the race and I am looking at this in pure mathematically terms and implied probability of the favourite winning the race. Now this step requires hard work by reading UK horse form. If do not find the favourite is a viable lay bet, I leave the race alone.
Try to find weaknesses in the favourite via reading horse racing form.
This is not as easy as it looks! The fact the favourite has a low decimal odds range it means it has a high implied probability of winning the race. So, we must overcome this by looking for weaknesses in the horse form of the favourite and looking for other horses in the race that can beat it. So, what do I look for in the favourite?
1. Weight the favourite is carrying.
2. Is the favourite stepping up in class.
3. What calibre of horses the favourite has beaten in previous races.
4. Has the favourites BHB Official rating – OR improved from the last couple of races.
5. Does the track suit the favourite.
6. Finally, the going, can the favourite handle the going.
We have to be confident at the end of this step we have a favourite that can be beaten.
If we find a favourite to lay in 3 above, we lay it.
I tend to just the lay the favourite at the current decimal odds. The object of this step is to obtain a free back bet on another horse in the same race. To achieve this the favourite must get beaten!
If we lay a favourite in 4 above, we now look for another horse to back in the same race but obviously not the favourite.
This is the fun part I like to back double figured priced horses with free money from our lay the favourite bet. The favourite must lose the race to achieve this. Sometimes I will back one or two horses in the race.
