The 80 20 Horse Racing System

The 80 20 Horse Racing System An Opinion Only

This 80 20 horse racing system sounds a great system but guess what in my opinion it only works if when you apply it and then record your selections over a period of time to measure its accuracy and its profitability, and how many punters do that?
Horse racing strategies need to be measured and calibrated over an acceptable timeframe.

My approach would be a reverse strategy, and I will explain why. But first let us understand this 80 20 horse racing system. It is where you place 80% of your stake on the place market and 20% of your stake on the win market. This sounds great as all horses are at the top of the market get placed, wrong!

But you ask yourself a question, and I will highlight this, ‘but I used this strategy on a novice hurdle and I lost money’, why? The punter scratches their head and cannot understand their loss. Well, I will expand on this scatter gun approach to this strategy that does not work. You must understand more than the numeric values of 80 and 20 for this system or strategy. We all know basic maths but do we, more on this later.
I would implement a reverse strategy and here is why. I would place 80% of my stake on the Betfair win market and 20% on the Betfair place market.

When I mean markets, I mean the Betfair trading exchange markets which is the best portal for this horse racing trading or betting strategy. But I like this alternative approach of a 20 place and 80 win market split but with some extra horse form variables put into the mix. The 2nd key element to this strategy is to attack the large, priced horses that are available in the Betfair win market and place markets.

What do I mean by the word ‘attack’?

I mean look for horses at Betfair decimal odds in the range of greater than or equal to 20.0 and less than or equal to 50.0 on the win market. On the Betfair win market you must also ask for larger prices early in the morning where there are gaps and small quantities of money so you can get large price movements as the money that is available in these gaps are eaten up quickly by bots and punters.

When you trade this reverse strategy or bet then you are increasing your chance of profit by placing more money on the win market.
I must confess this is not a strategy I would use on a daily basis as there are many strategies out there and believe you me I have tried many of these. But we live and learn and lose money on the way I have been trading and betting for over 30 years and yes, I have lost money. But if you learn in the process and finally have a strategy it is then worth it.

One final note the simple strategies are the best!
